Alyson Quinn Mohler
March 20th, 2010
7lbs.15oz. & 21 inches

We Are A Happy Family is one of Ryker's favorite primary songs, a song might I add that he has been signing for months now about loving his sister Alyson. I think it's a fitting song to describe for our growing family this week. My water broke just before midnight on Friday night and Alyson was delivered six hours later. All in all it was pretty much a perfect delivery without any complications and hardly any pain thanks to that lovely epidural shot!
But... my little girl was a tad bit purple when she came out, she was breathing but not very well so they immediately rushed her into the NICU and got her set up with oxygen and IVs and all sorts of tubes and wires. Thankfully she only had some respiratory issues for the first day, unfortunately she had a little infection so they kept her in the NICU for seven days, an entire week, so that she could receive antibiotics through the IV. She was very much out of place in there with so many tiny babies that were actually fighting for their lives and so much sicker than my girl.
The next week was the longest week - everyday Stephen and I would make the trip back and forth to the hospital at least three or four times a day and count down until the day they'd let us take her home. I think the hardest part for me was that they wouldn't let Ryker see her and he had been soo excited to meet his sister that it broke my heart. The nurses did allow us to let him look at her through the NICU windows so that's how he first saw his new baby sister Alyson.
So we really "are a happy family" to have our little girl finally home with us and so grateful that Alyson is happy and healthy and we couldn't love her more!!

I had no idea about the NICU. I'm so sorry. I know firsthand that having your new baby in there sucks. And you knew what it was like to take the baby home right away because of Ryker, so I'm sure it was way worse for you guys. I'm glad she's healthy. She's such a pretty baby.

I'm happy the delivery was smooth for you, but I'm so sorry she was sick. You DO make cute babies. She is beautiful like her brother. Congrats!!!

Congrats!! She is adorable. I am glad that everything went well with the delivery. That would be scary to have your newborn in the NICU - but glad she is okay and home. Take care!
